Giant of Lewistown

NOTE: This post comes from outside the blog's coverage area.

Although this Giant may be a bit dated, it is somewhat understandable given the store can't expand as a result of its downtown location. Despite its small size, the store does manage to serve the community.

Carbon Plaza Mall

NOTE: This post comes from outside the blog's coverage area.

The Carbon Plaza Mall opened in the early 1970s as a small mall with Laneco on one end and a Grant City on the other. Giant supermarket would in time replace the original Laneco space. Grant City, on the other end became a Bright's department store in 1976, which would later be sold to Laneco in 1983 for a second attempt in the area. Starting in the mid '90s, the now former second Laneco space would be subdivided into multiple storefronts. Mahoning Valley Cinema (now FunTime Cinemas) and Big Lots would occupy some of the space. In time, the mall would transition to also include medical uses, some of which operate in the former Grant City/Laneco space.

Giant Steps Forward in State College

While Giant has only a handful of locations that are within the blog's coverage area, we haven't really explored them. It's time to get the ball rolling with a look at the only location within the counties I cover that I've explored the interior of thus far. This store appears to be a relocation of an older location in Lemont that finally gave a repurpose to long vacant Ames store on the south side of State College. Giant at least kept an exterior detail from Hills and later Ames by not removing the two triangles either side of the main storefront. Enjoy the tour!
