Painting the Hillside With a McDonald's

While in the area earlier this month, I stumbled upon an increasingly rare sight: a mansard roof McDonald's that is unique. While this location is a straight-up themed location, it seem to rely heavy on decorative paintings and just whole bunch of little things combined that made this a worthwhile visit. Check out the pictures below:

This location apparently was built right into the hillside as the landscaping suggests.
The entry on the south side of the beguiling is unlike other mansard roof locations. It wraps around the side and front before you enter here.
Reverse view of the pic above.
It would appear the reason for the unique entry in the front is thanks to a refilling station being put it what was likely the south entrance.

Whether its the colors, the lighting or something else, this location was an absolute pleasure to visit. This picture right here is now one of my personal favorites.

The Lion King is coming.... though I mainly took this picture as I assume these are all franchised by the same person.

I conclude this tour with a look at the outside seating area.

All Aboard the McDonald's Railroad

NOTE: This post comes from outside the blog's coverage area.

While en route to visit Utica, I made visiting this particular McDonald's a must stop for one reason; a railroad caboose! Obviously this got me to visit and take a few pictures before this place falls victim to the corporate cookie-cutter eyebrow. I haven't returned since visiting this place, as it is a considerable distance away, but it would not surprise me to learn if this no longer exists as seen below.

Classic drive-thru
Before we dive into looking at the caboose, here's a few interior pictures of the place.

While locked at the time, this is how one would access the caboose from inside. Thankfully, it is a just a glass window corridor, so you weren't missing anything.
Now for the main attraction:
The glass corridor as seen from outside.

It was cool to see that customers could eat inside the caboose, just not today as it was locked.

A Tale of Two McDonald's Locations in Wanye County

It's no secret that some McDonald's locations are outdated or feature an awesome theme. For us retail fanatics, its a pleasure to step foot and see relics of the past or visit a location that is unique in its theme. For McDonald's anymore, not so much. I can understand them wanting to update old locations (such as the ones in this post) with no theme, but for those locations that do carry a theme, it makes me mad to just ditch the theme to go for another generic cookie-cutter style after remodeling. Personally I'm far more likely to go a unique location because it is unique! That's what makes it so special.

Well anyways, the focus of this post are the McDonald's locations in Newark, NY followed by a quick peek at the Ontario, NY location. I didn't take a lot of pics at these locations, so I thought why not combine the two together to make one post. I have no doubt that these two will be remodeled someday, if they haven't been already. It does appear that Ontario got a slight remodel inside but nothing exterior wise.

A McDonald's with a Basement Playground

This McDonald's is extremely unique compared to others I've stepped into. This location has a basement playground, a drive-thru only lane that stretches around the building, and the building itself is not very wide at all. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

The McDonald's sign sits in the middle of the parking lot!

To enter, you must walk up the sidewalk as seen here.
Nice window detail.
Local owned plaque. I don't know if these were common or not.
Interior time:

Into the playground area:

A handicap-accessible elevator is in place.

Stairs

I took these various playground shots as they are becoming rarer. Also, getting a view of the upper portion like you do here is something I've not seen elsewhere.

Looks like an old ball pit.

I hope this one doesn't get eyebrowed!
