Perhaps my favorite of the West Virginia Kmart stores I visited would have to be the former Beckley location. While this store was not fully updated, it had received some upgrades such as a drive-thru pharmacy. And in a twist, some of the departart signage letters that are from yesteryear still remained intact on the wall. In fact, it would appear that the signage for the baby shop was even moved to occupy the space used for the cafe signage. The 'Sports' signage was also likely moved at one point.
This location closed in 2018 and to the best of my knowledge, is now being used as medical offices.
The signage inside looks strange. It looks like the current combined with Courier. The heavily-updated Kmart in Elizabethtown, PA had a drive-thru pharmacy.
ReplyDeleteSignage here definitely was a unique find. Most Kmart stores that remodeled in 2007/2008 either got a drive-thru or walk-up pharmacy. Elizabethtown was among those stores.
DeleteAs for the reason why Beckley here got one, I believe it was because the pharmacy did really well.
Walnutport, PA also received a walk-up pharmacy, which makes sense. It got the "orange" remodel. I have some images on my Flickr and my Blog if it interests you.
DeleteI don't even remember signs like that in the Camillus Mall K-mart, which opened like 1983 and closed around 96 or 99.

DeleteIn a 2019 Google Maps street view, the Kmart in Freedom, CA has a walk-up pharmacy, But in a 2016 view, the canopy is removed and carts are blocking the window.
