Our last upstate NY Kmart to tour brings us to New Hartford, NY. Located just outside Utica, this location had already been announced for closure by the time I visited. Liquidations had not begun yet though. At one time, this location had a cafe and pharmacy. This location was an early Kmart, so it had a neighboring Kmart Foods space. This location is now an At Home decor superstore. The former Kmart foods/Price Chopper space next door has become a Big Lots.
That Price Chopper was vacant for a long time before Big Lots went in.
ReplyDeleteI used to go in here quite often when my travel took me past here. The last time, during the closing, they had a security guard on and I saw why they needed him when somebody attempted to sprint out the door with a microwave and some other things. He got away but left the stuff at the curb.
Theft like that is never good to hear about.
