Former Kmart #4229

This post comes from Ohio.

While out in the Warren/Youngstown, OH area to capture the last Super Kmart, I also decided to venture into what was is now also a former Kmart in Austintown. Unlike the supercenter, this store actually closed in an earlier wave with its final month being January 2018. This was an overall average store, though the exterior was noticeably quite dated looking like it hadn't seen a change since this location opened. The store had a pharmacy but no evidence of it ever having a KCafe. Anyways, enjoy the store tour!

  1. Great Kmart pictures, as always! I have a feeling you're one of, if not the, most prolific Kmart photographer(s) out there :)

    1. Haha, thanks. It helps that I've done it for a few years now figuring things would eventually not be so great for them.

  2. With the way things are going with Sears and Kmart closing stores almost all the time, and with the almost certain possibility with the way leases are still current for many closed stores,I honestly expect these closed stores to be unoccupied for a least a few years...

    1. Most likely, unless lease is already mentioned as a reason for closure.

  3. Nate,is there any legal way Sears can be court ordered to break leases on empty stores,so other retailers can occupy the empty buildings?

    1. Since they are in bankruptcy, they can legally break leases with no consequences, but court approval is needed if I'm not mistaken.

  4. Nate,I had read yesterday that Lampert submitted a last minute bid to keep 450-500 stores open for 4.4 billion, subject to approval by the creditors...to me it's pure insanity when the person totally responsible for what happened submits the only bid....but on the other side, there's been a lot of signs that Sears and Kmart will possibly liquidate ..to me ,either scenerio don't look good ,and with more stores slated to shutdown, including the last Kmart store in Erie PA,at this point, total liquidation would not surprise me.

    1. This is true. I've given up on the company entirely at this point because they are stupidly closing some locations that do make money, my local one being among them. This is one of the reasons why I'm not doing 'bluelight news flash' articles anymore.

There is only going to be 2 Kmart stores in all of western PA once this round goes through. Those two being New Castle and Leechburg.

  5. Yep,and I'm surprised those two are still open as of this point in time...

  6. Do you think liquidation would happen if the creditors turn down Lamperts offer?.

  7. And with the lease issues which are involved with closed stores,Im thinking it will be a long while until something moves into closed locations...
