Columbia Mall (Dead Mall)

Another tale of a failing mall in central Pennsylvania awaits us. While shoppers continue to flock to other stores, the mall is left to bite the dust. Bloomsburg, famously known for being the only 'official' town in Pennsylvania, has a mall that barely hangs on.

Originally anchored by Sears, JCPenney, Bon Ton and Ames, the mall opened in 1988. Only slight anchor changes have occurred with the most notable being Dunham's Sports in the old Ames space.  EFO furniture and Planet Fitness have moved into the old Sears (which closed in 2015) while the JCPenney (closed earlier this year) remains empty.

I visited the mall in 2016 and also a second time during JCPenney's liquidation sale.

Time for an inside tour:

Radioshack/Sprint. Likely now closed.

GNC has sinced moved out of the mall.

Former Ames

Suites instead of stores!
Former Sears
Unused space (at the time) of the former Sears

Time for some bonus pictures of the JCPenney's liquidation.

I'm not sure what the future holds for this mall, but things aren't looking to bright. A lot of empty storefronts can be seen here.
