Soon to Be Former Kmart #3406

This month's featured Kmart focuses on a recently announced closing store that I had visited outside the blog's coverage area. Located in East Stroudsburg, PA, this location was a former Grants location that Kmart took over. This store will close forever by the end of July 2017.

Shingles!

Kmart kept the shingled exterior which makes for a really cool exterior, even if it is quite old. Now it is time for an interior tour of this store while it was still in normal operation.

Kmart had managed to find another tenant to fill the old auto center.

Rating: 8 out of 10.
I generally felt this store was somewhat busy, even if a Walmart was across the street. It was easy to navigate and quite organized. The only drawback was likely the age of the building.

In Danger of Closing?
Obviously. Announced to be closing in July 2017.

  1. I like the shingles and the gray paint on the interior! I thought the tile floor looked nice too, until the photos where you can tell Kmart replaced them with mismatched ones. Plus electronics looks terrible. :/

    1. The gray is nice and different. Electronics is pretty much that way everywhere. To be fair though this picture was taken right around that time when they were transitioning from full electronics to half appliances.

  2. Wow! I worked at this store in the late 70s and it looks so different now, as it should. I couldn't believe how long it remained it operation after the whole Sears/Kmart debacle. Especially once a Walmart opened up nearby. They should have never fired me back in the day...I could have become CEO before they merged with Sears. They were up and coming when I left, but as Tony Montana says, "Look at you now!"

    1. It is surprising that they kept this location for so long with Walmart across the street. This Kmart is now a Giant supermarket if I'm not mistaken.
