It turns out that my very first retail blog post would prove true 2 years later. After a couple months of demolition and rebuilding, the Wellsville McDonald's is back open in a new modern building. Sadly, all of the former relics are no more. Before we get to the new building, I have a few one last visit pictures I took before the building came crashing down.
And the demo work begins:

I was disappointed to see that the eyebrow style was being built. |

And as the sign suggests, we enter the interior: |

At least some sort of local touch is here, but its nothing compared to the awesome neon balloon. |

The dining room felt a lot smaller then it was in the old building. |
That wraps up the look at this modernized McDonald's.
At least the balloon is still incorporated somehow, but as you say, it's nothing compared to the neon that used to be there. Ho-hum.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more. It would of been cool if they could of repurposed that neon balloon into this modern store.
DeleteBoo. I have to admit I like their newest "ribbon and blade" design; disappointing this wasn't one of those. And regarding the dining room, I think they are making their dining rooms smaller, probably because more of their business comes from the drive-through. At least, that was confirmed to be the case when one near me was rebuilt a couple years ago:

That design isn't bad, but still not one of my favorites. It makes sense to shrink the dining room, but it does make it feel crowded if the location is busy.
DeleteEver see the vintage McDonalds in Binghamton? When it was time for a new one they built it elsewhere and converted this one to offices. It's now empty but externally is like the 1970s all over again.
ReplyDeleteI have indeed. I've got a picture of it on my Flickr photostream.
DeleteUpdate on the vintage McDonalds. They are no longer using it as offices and sold the building. It is now a Mexican Restaurant "El Pulpo" and they have done not updated the building pretty much at all. The greenhouse windows, brown flooring, counter are all still there.
DeleteWow. Neat that it has survived!
