NOTE: This post comes from outside the blog's coverage area.
This particular Kmart store was clearly one that was expanded upon and some money was spent to update it in the 1990s. As you will see from the store map, the clothing section of the store was expanded into what was very likely a Kmart Foods space. The garden shop also got a substantial update complete with a new entrance. At one point in time, this store was even a candidate to be replaced by a Super Kmart that would of opened down the road in the area where a Walmart now operates. Obviously that supercenter never happened, but it is still fun to think 'What if?'.
Seen today where Sears and Kmart are planning to close more stores by the end of October, and liquidation sales would be starting within the next few weeks..the Kmart in Jamestown NY is on this closing list..
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, Jamestown never should have made it this long. That store has consistently been one of the most lackluster stores I've been too. While it is a nice and clean store, there really were never that many shoppers in my visits.
DeleteThe Jamestown one is so sad anymore. And you're right with the lack of foot traffic it never should have made it this long. At this point in time the electronics section is "walled off" with appliances and there isn't anything in the garden center. I guess it just goes to show that a company like sears holdings that stood the test of time, could be brought to the ground by online shopping and Wal-Mart, and in a word, the future.
DeleteIts clear that Jamestown Kmart doesn't know what to do with all their space for the last few years. Really Sears Holdings' downfall is not to be blamed entirely on Walmart or online shopping, but really extremely poor leadership in Eddie Lampert.
DeleteI agree,I was into the New Castle PA Kmart a few weeks ago, didnt look very busy to me at the time
ReplyDeleteThe bankruptcy has taken a toll on the stores.
