Having been located across the street from the Buffalo area's most successful mall, this Kmart store in Cheektowaga surprisingly was actually the first location to close in the Sears Holdings era. At first, it could be reasoned this was because of the real estate, but to my knowledge, no new development has actually been constructed here as of this writing. The former Kmart building itself though has been demolished. This Kmart was indeed an early '60s store judging by its layout. It likely expanded into what was a Kmart Foods and offered a pharmacy. There was a KCafe at one point as well.
I was in this store a number of times. What I noticed was until they went into the liquidation it was never particularly busy, even when the mall was packed. They had parts of the lot sort of blocked off with large concrete blocks, too.
ReplyDeleteAlso I think Transit Rd in Depew closed before this one, street view shows it as "Daves" while this one was still going.
DeleteIt is quite the enigma that this location was that way given the proximity to the Walden Galleria. As for Depew, you are correct. I did not get pictures of that location since I wasn't into the retail hobby until 2012. I believe Depew closed in 2010.
