Bon-Ton Gone at Columbia Mall

Bon-Ton, as we knew it, is now gone. But, as you will see later in the post, Bon-Ton may actually be primed to make a limited comeback. This post highlights just one of more than 200 stores that underwent a liquidation sale earlier this year. This location is the Bloomsburg, PA store in the dead Columbia Mall.

While Bon-Ton is gone, its website is not. After concluding the liquidation sales last month, Bon-Ton and its family of banners have been bought by an Indianapolis company who plan to open some physical brick and mortar locations. It remains to be seen as to what locations will reopen.

Former Kmart #4874

Once again we tour a Kmart from a happier time than how it sits today. Today this location sits abandoned, although there are indications that Rural King may open up here at some point. The sad thing though is that this store was actually closer to the Franklin community it served then its closest competitor, which would be Walmart, in Cranberry Township about a 10 minute drive away. This closing didn't surprise me as I was more or less expecting it to happen. There are just some stores that make logical sense to close due to Sears Holdings' situation and this happened to be one of them in my opinion.

Anyways, enjoy the tour!

Wellsville's Rite Aid-Walgreens

It's hard to say where Walgreens' plans are stands in the taking over select Rite Aid stores. While many have closed in other parts of the country where Walgreens had more market presence, this region has generally seen little to no closures that I know of the top of my head. This makes for a very confusing shopping experience if you ask me. Am I shopping at Rite Aid or Walgreens?

One town where this situation occurs is in Wellsville. While Walgreens already has a store in the community, which ironically is a former Rite Aid that was taken over after Rite Aid's Eckerd purchase. Rite Aid relocated to the Eckerd site with higher traffic counts and that store is what this post features. Walgreens still plans to apparently operate both locations as Walgreens from what I gather- eventually. But for now, a two-in-one store of competing companies continues to operate under one roof.
Welcome to Rite Aid with a Walgreens pharmacy
I really like this cart tunnel. Pretty cool and unique.
