A new month brings another look at a Kmart store. Continuing on in the look at the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area stores, this month features the Pittston store. This location is a former Grants and actually has two entrances!
|
Vintage Garden Shop still present on my visit |
|
Took this pic for the cart message |
|
Here's the second entrance. Apparently this store was once attached to an enclosed shopping center and this was the connection point from Grants/Kmart to it. |
|
Note the upper left corner on this map is outdated. Apparently it was once used for the garden shop, but as you will see below, the garden shop has been moved into the store itself. |
So, as always, here comes the interior tour: (We enter from the second entrance)
|
Former Deli/Cafe on the left |
One thing to note about the following pictures is that I visited during the timeframe when the appliance takeover of electronics was occurring. Therefore I saw the following:
|
I assume this to be the entryway into the old garden shop |
|
These doors had to have been added in at a later date. |
|
The front wall of the store here actually is part of the actionway |
Rating: 9 out of 10. I can't say there is much negatives here. Clean, well-stocked, and seemed quite busy when I visited. A couple of minor updates wouldn't hurt though.
In Danger of Closing? If you had asked me last year, I would of said yes as its lease was up. But evidently Kmart must of extended their lease for them to still be in operation here.
Cool that they extended their lease! Looks like a nice store indeed.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteThis store is actually in Luzerne County, not Lackawanna. But from what I've been told by employees here, this store is #2 in sales out of the 4 remaining locations in the Wyoming Valley, right behind Edwardsville, so it has something working in its favor.
ReplyDeleteOk, thanks for correcting me! I've adjusted it now.
DeleteWow, I thought Wilkes-Barre was 2. That's cool nonetheless as Wilkes-Barre does good too.
Nate, seen a story online today about our local (Clarion PA) KMart...two questions..the manager from the recently closed Butler PA is now a manager at the Clarion store...also the pharmacy in Clarion reduced hrs to 10a-6p...do these moves mean anything for the future of the Clarion store?
ReplyDeleteThe manager move shouldn't really have any effect. It is likely that he/she simply applied to go to a different Kmart since Butler was closing. As for the pharmacy, that doesn't necessarily mean much as cuts are being made chainwide. Those hours are actually quite reasonable.
DeleteI also saw an article where the Clarion Kmart renewed its lease at the mall in 2016, so I don't think it will close anytime soon. The one that concerns me more is Franklin.
I think Franklin is owned by Sears Holdings
ReplyDeleteThat would make sense.
DeleteNate, just seen online Kmart is closing 28 more stores, list will be made public today...when is the destruction of Kmart ever going to stop??
ReplyDeleteYes, a list is on the way. Likely it won't stop as long as Eddie runs the company.
DeleteIt's closed now! :(

Sadly, yes.
