Without further ado, let's take a look at this unique Weis:
As you can see from the photo, this is a small Weis! Note that the far left side isn't even used by Weis! I'm suspecting Weis expanded to the right, but I could be wrong, as you will see below.
New products which one could take for granted at other Weis locations |
The suspected expansion area actually had a lot of the supermarket staples you'd expect. I'm not sure Weis would want to continue to operate this store if they didn't have this space.
Now we head back into the store core:
Small little selection of Greeting cards |
This 'features' display feels original to the store. Definitely a relic even if it isn't. |
A small little book department |
Look at that dated ICE machine. That's cool literally. (sorry) |
Only 3 checkout lanes here; with customer services counting as one |
It's cool indeed to see this store still operating! Interesting that it's located so close to the HQ, too... I'm surprised they haven't sprung for a larger replacement store in the area. But, it sounds like the community may be too small to support that. I agree with you that I have a lot of respect for companies that keep these types of stores in these types of towns open... but in this case, I have to wonder if it's less a profitability thing and more an "it's too close to HQ to risk the backlash of shutting it down."
ReplyDeleteThere definitely isn't really much to justify a larger store. The community is indeed on the smaller side and this basically acts as the local grocery store. You may be onto something with the backlash risk, but I guess I was giving Weis the benefit of the doubt.
DeleteNo worries - ultimately it doesn't matter what's keeping it open per se, as long as it does indeed stay open!
DeleteAgreed!
DeleteHow many square feet is this store?
ReplyDeleteI say at most 12,000 sq. ft. and that may even be too big. A Dollar General down the road was used for comparison to make this educated guess.
