Former Kmart #7342

To start our series of Kmart tours in 2022, we will first visit the unique former Watertown, NY Kmart. This location was indeed one-of-a-kind as it sported a really unique exterior design with a tower in the parking lot. Sadly, this unique architecture was removed last year when replacement tenant Runnings took over the space.

When Kmart did operate here, it had a Little Caesars right up until liquidation. A pharmacy was also in operation, though it had cut back hours. By all accounts, it appears this location that this location was opened in the 1990s. I managed to capture views of this location both during normal operation and its liquidation sale in 2017. We will start with photos of normal operation.

  1. Very nice exterior on this one. I crack up at the Little Caesars mannequin. Also interesting to see the background to the pharmacy sign from a different décor.

    1. That exterior was uniquely awesome.

The Little Caesars mannequin was something else. I can't wrap my mind as to why it was done or what benefit it would bring other than amusement. Not complaining obviously, it just makes you wonder.

As to the pharmacy signage, Kmart decor in general can be odd. I have to imagine it was original to the store.

  2. According to the Kmart latest list, this location opened April 12, 1993 as a replacement for a former Grants POB located at 1575 Washington Street, which that building is currently offices. This building is classed as a C Series 37R. Not sure what the covered tower was about.

    1. I kept looking at that particular building from satellite figuring it was retail at one point. Didn't realize it was a Grant's/Kmart.
