Taking Tops out of the Baseball Game

NOTE: This post comes from outside the blog's coverage area.

To finish off the Tops to Grand Union locations, we now tour one last location that I have in my archives in Cooperstown. This location was also a P&C Foods and it appears little was done to update this location. The only evidence of Tops making a change, outside of the obvious logo swap, was adding the Tops slogan of 'Your neighborhood store with more.' The decor appears to be a rare surviving P&C decor at a Tops. Given that we are near Cooperstown, this location relies quite heavily on using a unique spin by using baseball related decorations. I'm not sure if that was an addition Tops made or if it was original to P&C. You'll notice teams from all over the country can be spotted. Hopefully Grand Union will continue to use it.

The proximity of the dollar stop to HBA and the lower ceiling suggests there could have been a pharmacy here at one point.

  1. This store is due to close January 30th, and re-open as Grand Union on February 5th. Rome and Sherrill are due to close on February 20th and re-open as Grand Union on February 26th.

Unless C&S has been renovating these past two months, these stores can't look that much different given the 5-6 day closure. The most you can get is a new coat of paint, decor, technology, and new shopping carts.

    1. Yeah, that really isn't a lot of time to make drastic changes.

    2. Though they might after the initial reopening. The official grand opening date is March 4th, according to C&S's fairly open article about the chain.
