They say all things must come to an end. And late last year that was true of one of Olean, NY community's local supermarkets....
Park 'N Shop has been a staple in this southern tier city for over 100 years. It at one point had four different locations. Two of which are now closed with the one formerly operating at the corner of W. State St. and N. 13th St. in Olean being the focus of this post. (The other closed location in nearby Allegany is now a Dollar General.) With a bakery, deli and 3 aisles, this particular store was very tiny by today's standards. It reminded me a lot of bodega you may find in larger cities. Overall, it was a pleasant little convenient store that surely will be missed by those in the vicinity.
Wow, this store was a trip back in time. I like the vintage signage on the front of the building that looks straight out of the 1950s. Even though this was a tiny store, maybe it's just the pictures, but it feels a lot bigger than it really was inside.
ReplyDeleteI saw in advance this was planning to close, so I stepped in to document it. Online listings show the building to be around 11,000 sq. ft. That being said, I figure that would include the neighboring tenant. I suspect the grocery store was more likely around 8,000-9,000.
DeleteIf you get a chance ,check out the Farm Fresh grocery store in Tionesta PA.Most of the business comes from campers and travellers from Pittsburgh,etc..I'm thinking the store is between 10000 to 20000 square feet...
ReplyDeleteI'll try to keep that in mind, but no guarantees.
